This is #day16.
Over the summer, I am writing a short post about our day. The posts highlight some of our fun times, boring times, and imperfect times.

#Day16

Yay! We awaken at 05:00.
Boy plays quietly, threading a USB cable through the leg of his jeans. After all,

. . . children
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . know
. how
. . . . . . . . to
. . . . . . . . . . . play.

I observe and listen and learn. At 06:00 we start our day.

• Breakfast
• Walk
• Coffee
• Park
• Grandma’s

Gremlin and Co. made an expressive visit.
Boy learned that deep breaths and calm thoughts scared gremlins away.
The unwelcome visitors departed.

It’s 10:30. We still have a whole day to weave ourselves into.

We meet old friends from our former lives in Japan.
楽しかった!It was fun!

We walk home. Slowly.
Stopping for rehydration and ice cream.

We need a few supplies and pop into a store.
Boy wants to play “Maze” (we separate, look for interesting things, then find each by calling).

It sounds like a fun game. But not one we can play in a store.
Boy is disappointed.

We arrive at Grandma’s house.
Hot and tired.

I need to work.
Boy snuggles next to me with his iPad.
Daddy goes out with his brother.
Boy struggles to stay awake.

As always, there were things I could have done better.
Boy also made some mistakes.
Daddy was human too.

Tomorrow, we head north to see more family. Time to pack again.

How do you or your kids soothe anxiety?
